THE MARTIN RITTER FAMILY
Two emigrants were Martin and Casper Ritter who arrived in 1749 and 1750,
respectively. Supposedly, they were brothers. I believe Martin may have
been the father of the Turbotville Martin.
Martin, Jr. was born 10 Aug 1760 at Salisbury, Northampton County; he died
at Turbotville, Northumberland Co., Pa., 4 Feb 1840. 4 Jun 1781 in Easton,
Northampton Co., Pa., he married Barbara Fredericks, who was born 22 Apr
1759 and died 8 Jul 1847 at Turbotville. During the Revolutionary War,
Martin served as a fifer in Captain John Santees' Company, 2nd Battalion,
Northampton County Miltia.
Martin and Barbara had eight children:
1. John, b. 25 Feb 1782
2. George, b. 24 Jun 1786
3. Elizabeth, b. 29 Jan 1788
4. Barbara, b. 2 Sep 1791
5. Martin, b. 8 Dec 1792
6. Samuel, b. 1796, Northampton Co., Pa.; m. ca. 1819, Lycoming Co., Pa.,
Christiana Starr, b. 1800; d. after 1850, Franklin Twp., Lycoming Co., Pa.
7. Valentine
8. John Jacob, b. 30 Oct 1802 Schwartzwold, Northampton Co., Pa.; d. 21
Oct 1856, Muncy Creek Township, Lycoming Co., Pa.; m. ca. 1826 Lydia Lohr
(Lorah, Lore), b. 11 Apr 1807, Sunbury, Northumberland Co., Pa.; d. 10 Apr
1900, Muncy Creek Township, Lycoming Co., Pa.
Most of the Ritter families residing in Muncy today descend from John
Jacob and Samuel, the sons of Martin and Barbara. Some descend from
another line whose ancestor is Daniel Ritter of Moreland Township,
Lycoming Co., who will be covered at a later date.

Hannah is listed as mother in this census. Interestingly, Matilda Ritter is listed as step mother.
Just a curiosity - Hannah Stofflet Schmidt mother of David Smith, grandmother of Benjamin Franklin Smith. He married Bertha Snyder, daughter of Mary Jane Ritter.
