Baptism Date: 16 Feb 1800
Baptism Place: Schoenersville, Lehigh, Pennsylvania
Father Name: Martin Ritter
Mother Name: Barbara Ritter

1800 Christiana Starr Was Born
Christiana is thought to be the daughter of Anthony Starr 1765-1830 & Christina Ritter 1780- ?  I do not have any research or proof to confirm or deny this at this time.

1821 - Son William Ritter was born
William Ritter was born Jan 5 1821 in Lycoming County Pa.  He married Lydia Renn, and they had several children including: Thomas Jefferson Ritter, Jackson Ritter, Jacob Ritter & William Ritter.  William Ritter was a veteran of the civil war.  He died July 24 1891 in Lycoming County Pa.

1823- Son John F. Ritter was Born
John F. Ritter was born June 17 1823 in Lycoming County PA.  He married Susan Nichum, and in 1865 they went to Iowa with most of the Ritter family.
John & Susan had 10 children, including George William Ritter and Thomas Ritter.  John was a stone mason, as several Ritters were, by trade.
In 1880, after Susan's death, John remarried to Mary J. McLenry.

At the age of 72, John committed suicide at the home of his daughter, where he was living.

1825 - Son Zebedee Ritter Was Born
Zebeddee was Dan's maternal 3rd great grandfather.  He married Anna Mary Fox.
You can read more about them here:
http://heathersgen.blogspot.com/2012/02/zebedee-ritter-1826-1913.html

1828 - Daughter Mary Jane Ritter was born
Mary Jane Ritter married Solomon Samuel Renn 1826-1888.  Their children included:
Francis M Renn 1850–1934, Amanda C Renn 1852–, Samuel F Renn 1855– , John W Renn 1859–, Christie A. Renn 1861–, Christian Renn 1861– , Benjamin H. Renn 1864– , Amos W. Renn 1866– , Mary P Renn 1869–

Both Mary Jane & Solomon were born in Pa, and I assume they were married in PA - but by 1860, they were in Iowa.

1831 - Son George Ritter Was Born
He married a Josephine. His cemetery record says that Josephine's maiden name was Schaeffer, but his daughters marriage record, Josephine's marriage license, and Josephine's obit, all say she was Josephine Bryan. Also, in 1885, Almira, Josephine's mother, lives with George & Josephine.  It's possible there were two George Ritters who both married Josephine's,but I would find it unlikely that they both had daughters named Irene who married Lidners, and that both Josephine's had a mother named Almira.    I'm not sure where the Shaeffer came from in George's obit, but the mistake was likely transferred to his cemetery record from the obit.

To add to the confusion, although she has the Ritter surname in all records, Irene was apparently a foster daughter.

(Looking at the original census, it is Samuel Ritter, not Putter - Putter is an ancestry.com transcription error.  But there are still errors here.  Samuel's correct age should be 50.  His wife is Christina, not Catherina.    George is correct.  The next dwelling in the census is Abraham Starr - likely the brother of Christina.  The dwelling after Abraham is Zebedee Ritter.)

1854 Samuel & Christina Moved to Iowa -

"The first hotel in Waverly was a log house that was located on the river bank on the east side between East Water street and the river. It was kept by Samuel Ritter and wife who came from Williamsport Pa in 1854 or the year following. The necessity for a hotel was so great that they involuntarily became Bonifaces because they had the biggest house then in town and could not very well help becoming hotel keepers. They did a satisfactory and good business until better quarters could be provided. "

Samuel & Christina (along with son George) both left Lycoming Co. sometime after 1850 and before 1856 and traveled to Iowa, apparently following their  son George W. and his wife Josephine  there.

RESEARCH:
From the History of Lycoming County (published 1892), page 963:

"Samuel E. Ritter, farmer, was born in Lycoming county, Pennsylvania, July 22, 1849, a son of Zebedee and Anna (Fox) Ritter. Martin Ritter, the great-grandfather of Samuel E. Ritter, was married to Barbara Fredericks, and to this union there were born eight children: John; George; Martin; Elizabeth; Barbara, Valentine; Jacob, and Samuel. The last two named came to Lycoming county; Samuel married Christiana Starr, by whom he had five children: Wiliam, deceased; John; Zebedee; George, and Mary. From the History of Lycoming County, page 966:

"George Ritter located on the present site of Turbutville, Northumberland county, Pennsylvania, at an early day. He was the father of seven children: Elizabeth; Martin; George; Valentine; Samue; Jacob, and one daughter, name unknown.
Samuel, a stone-mason by trade, came to Lycoming county, Pennsylvania, where he remained until his death. He was the father of five children: William; John; Zebedee; George, and Mary J. William, eldest son of Samuel Ritter, married Lydia Renn, by whom he had eleven children: Thomas J.; Zebedee J.; Jacob B., deceased; William H., deceased; George W., deceased; Samuel P., deceased; Franklin P., deceased; Rhoda A., deceased; John A.; Christiann, and Jeremiah D. For fifteen years he was Justice of the Peace in Franklin township.
John A. was married in 1879 to Miss Mary A. Minier, and to this union were born two children: Jacob H. and J. Brady.
Zebedee J. married Jemelia Houseknecht, and to this union the following children have been born: Stella G.; William E.; Ernest W., and Christiana, who married H. H. Minier, and has four children: John H.; Fannie H.; Mary J., and Loda B.
Jeremiah D. Ritter married Emeline Hill, and of this union six children have been born: Bessie E.; Nora A., deceased; William C., deceased; George M. deceased; Mattie, deceased, and Pearl.

"Much of the second article from the Lycoming County History is in error. "George Ritter" was in reality Martin Ritter, Jr. His son, Samuel, was my great-great-great grandfather. He and his wife, Christianna Starr Ritter, did not die in Lycoming County, PA but rather in Bremer County, Iowa. I have visited their graves many times and their graves are located in Harlington Cemetery in Waverly, IA. I have posted an accurate description of the family on line and welcome any comments. William L. Buhrow, M.D."

We do find a Samuel Ritter still in this area in Penn, Union Co. PA in 1860 & 1870 but I've eliminated them due to age being off in both by 2 years, unknown people in household, and occupation as farmer rather than stone mason.
