William Andrew Ridge was born July 25 1886, in Rich Hill Missouri, according to his passport & draft registration. Family tell me that he is the child of Running Bear (William Ridge) & Sun Su Say, and that they were cherokee. Unfortunately I cannot find any records for them at all.
I cannot find William in the census in 1900. Andrew spent 4 years in the Navy, and sometime while serving met Ethel Linderborn, whom he married in 1908.
Ethel Emma Linderborn was born March 20 1890, and she was baptized at St Paul's Episcopal church in Camden New Jersey, on April 26 1891. Her parents are listed on her baptismal records, they were Philip & Amanda Linderborn. Mary Smith, her grandmother, is listed as a sponsor.
In 1900 Ethel is found in the census with her parents, and with her brother Russel age 6, Alexander age 2, and Howard age 2 months.
William & Ethel are found in Illinois in the census in 1910. William's occupation is given as coal miner. The census tells us that Ethel has had one child, but has no children living.
In 1911 they had a son Harold Ridge. At Age 18 he was working in the furniture industry. he married Immelda E. Messick and they lived at 37 S. Charles St, Baltimore Md, just a few blocks away from Inner Harbor.
A man has contacted me, claiming that Harold was not the son of Andrew & Ethel, rather that they had a stillborn child, and Harold was given to them by a woman who was trying to cover up an illegitimate birth. In his messages he states "About 1945 Wm. Ridge brought Harold Ridge to Belleville, Illinois. A Frazer brought them to see my parents." I would love to find any children of Harold, to hear what they think of this story.
In 1913 William & Ethel had a daughter, Ethel M. Ridge. She worked atthe Bottle Top Industry in 1930, at age 16. Later She married Albert John Bushek Sr. They had at least two children. A 1953 city directory shows them in Oregon, and tells us that Albert was in the army. Ethel died March 2 1955 (age 41) in Oklahoma. The cemetery internment form tells us that she was the wife of SFC Albert J. Bushek, RA, 39326592 Hq & Hq detachment, 45th Trans Bn, Fort Sill Okla. "Albert John Bushek drove an ammunition truck away from the compound while it was on fire from enemy incoming attack. He saved numerous lives and was awarded a Bronze Star."
Records tell us that Andrew & Ethel had at least two stillborn children, in 1914 & 1916.
In 1916 William's draft registration tells us that they live at 1400 N. Adams, Peoria, Illinois. William was a stationary engineer. His draft card states that he has a wife and 3 children, but I only know of two children alive at this time, Harold & Ethel. William was of medium height, with brown hair and blue eyes.
Son Raymond was born September 12, 1917 in Cook County Illinois. He married Helen Irene Luedtke July 20. 1940. They are found in the city directories in Maryland. He died March 1983 in Baltimore, Maryland.
In 1918, my great grandmother Nina Francis Ridge was born. She grew up to Marry Joseph Lumbard Jr.
In 1919, William traveled to Cuba for work. The Davison Chemical Company supplied this letter - "Mr William Ridge, who is connected to this company as Mechanic, has made application for a passport to permit him to go to Cuba on very important matters for this Company in connection with the development of our pyrites property located near Cienfuegos, Cuba
Our Company have been dependent upon pyrites from Spain in making sulphuric acid, the delivery of which has been seriously interfered with on account of the U-Boat warfare. The development of our Cuban property is of vial importance and it is in connection with that work that Mr Ridge is leaving for Cuba as soon as his passport is granted." On August 16 1919, Ethel & the children visit him in Cuba. Ethel States in her passport application that she is to be accompanied by her four infant children
Harold 8 yrs, Ethel 5 years, Ralph 2 years, Nina 10 months
Solemnly swears that she was born in Camden NY on the 23rd day of March 1890
and that her husband, William A Ridge, was born in Richfield Missouri, and is now residing in Cuba. Purpose is to "join husband who is employed in Cuba" Passenger records show the entire family returning the next month, in September 1919.
In 1920 the family is living in Baltimore MD, and they remain in Maryland for the rest of their lives. The census tells us that William's parents were born in Oklahoma. William is employed as an engineer in Fertilizer Manufacturing.
In 1921 William & Ethel have a daughter, Mildred. Mildred L. Ridge was born February 11 1921 in Maryland. She married Samuel Birely. She died November 28 1986.
In 1922 they have a son, William Lavelle Ridge was born April 9 1922 in Maryland. He married Anna Marie Lulie on March 22 1942. He enlisted in the army December 12 1942. PFC US ARMY WORLD WAR II. William died Jan 30, 1965 in West Virginia, and is buried in Baltimore national cemetery, Maryland.
And in 1923, they have another daughter. Amanda Lavera Ridge was born July 12 1923 in Baltimore Md. She married Horace Richard Craycroft. He was in the army from 1944-1946. She died February 23, 1999 In Maryland.
In 1928, another son. Melvin Charles Ridge was born on October 14 1928 in Baltimore Maryland. He died 1994 in Baltimore Md.
Their last child, a daughter, was born in 1930. Dorothy Frances Ridge was born July 13 1930 in Baltimore Maryland. The SS Death Index tells us: Apr 1945: Name listed as DOROTHY FRANCES RIDGE; Jan 1950: Name listed as DOROTHY FRANCES CRAVINES; Aug 1954: Name listed as DOROTHY FRA HOUSE; 11 Mar 1977: Name listed as DOROTHY F WELLS. She died June 2001 in Florida
William died June 6 1958 in Baltimore Md. I do not know where he is buried. Ethel died almost exactly a year later, on June 24 1959, also in Baltimore.

Where is William in 1900? He'd be about 14 years old.
I found a William Reed, a stepson of Edward Thompson, born in Indian Territory - but birthdate is given as december 1886, and it lists his father as being born in Mississippi, so I do not think this is him.

1911 Son Harold Ridge is born
Harold A. Ridge was born on April 12 1911 in St Louis Missouri. (Source- passenger list from his return trip from Cuba in 1919) There's a discrepancy in his date of birth. The 1920 census shows him to be born about 1912. The SS death index shows his birthday as April 12 1911 and the passenger list shows it as April 10 1910.
The 1930 census shows Harold still living at home, in Baltimore, age 18, working as a laborer in the Furniture industry.
He married Immelda E. Messick, and the city directories show that he lived at 37 S.Charles Street, Baltimore Md- just a couple of blocks away from Inner Harbor. The city directories show them in Baltimore in 1937, but I can not find them in the 1940 census.

Amanda Craycraft
Amanda Ridge Craycraft, 75, of Severna Park, died of heart failure Feb. 23 at Anne Arundel Medical Center after a brief illness.
A native of Baltimore, Mrs. Craycraft lived in Severna Park for 39 years. She was a charter member of the Severna Park Women's Bowling Association and a longtime holder of the high score mark at Severna Park Bowling Lanes. She also coached children's bowling leagues there.
She was a member of Severna Park United Methodist Church. Among her interests were painting ceramics and various crafts. She won the presidential award for physical fitness at one time.
Her husband, Horace Craycraft Sr., died in November 1997.
Survivors include three sons, Jerry W. Craycraft of Severna Park, Samuel J. Craycraft of Pasadena and Horace Craycraft Jr. of Jessup; four daughters, Ruth Kinder of Glen Burnie, Lucy Mae Nakkula of Calumet, Mich., Mary M. Gadd of Glen Burnie and Delores Wagner of Crownsville; a sister, Dorothy F. Wells of Fernando, Fla.; 11 grandchildren and 15 greatgrandchildren.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow and Friday at Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Highway, where the funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be in Meadowridge Cemetery in Elkridge.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1041 Route 3 North, Gambrills, MD 21054.

Balti. in the 50's we lived in the 1600 block she had 6 children Lonnie-Linda-Bonnie -Dotty-Johnny & Junior. I did not know that she was ever married to any one else but Uncle LD that's what we called him. I remember when she was not married and she would spend the night at our house and she and I would sleep on the floor. Shad the coolest roller skating bos it was silver and had stickers all over it from places she had skate.and she was good at it.
Aunt Dot could have been married before she married Uncle LD and after he passed she went to Fla. were one of her daughters live and meet the last man she married.

"Nina was my moms sister. Nina had 3 children Wonnie, Susie and Barry. Polly is my niece and the picture of 2 little girls with my grandfather are I believe Wonnie and Susie . the oldest girl that you think is Nina could not be if Susie is the youngest child ,plus grandfather was old in that picture he really didn't change that much over the years I knew him. My Gr-aunt told me her father had told her that when he was a boy of about 10, Buffalo Soldiers came to the village and killed many woman, children and old people. This was "on the Strip". "Hello I read your genealogy notes on William Andrew Ridge and found it to be very interesting. Nina was my moms sister. Nina had 3 children Wonnie, Susie and Barry. Grandfather would be 32 when Nina was born, so it can not be her. I also wanted to mention that Uncle Lavel was a twin. The twins name was Tommy this is the story my Mom told me. Grandfather had Tommy and Uncle Bill (as he was known to us) out for a walk in winter and he bought Tommy an ice cream well he got pneumonia and died Grandfather always blamed himself for Tommy's death.. I am not sure why he was not listed in the children. My daughter helped my Mom to trace her family tree I need to find out if she remembers what happened to it. Do you have Polly's (Rhonda) email address. My old computer got a virus and I lost all my stuff. Did you know Barry Lee he was polio but he had been names march of dime child and had gotten a teddy bear from Elvis Presley I remember seeing the news paper picture of them. Aunt Nina would always come down to visit us and it would rain ever time she came it kind of got to be a joke between her and my mom . Barry and I really liked playing together I would always play on the floor with him and his tractors. I remember Uncle Joe very well we use to go to there farm in Pa. They had a huge Pig and he ate a whole pumpkin in one bite. I am 70 years old born in 1946 on Halloween and my nick name is Dodo pronounced Doe doe. that's how I got my email address. I just started to trace my Moms family tree so I can prove I am Cherokee Indian I would like to make my Mom proud and be registered with the Cherokee Nation I do know that after my Moms grandchildren the blood line is to thin. So I have got to get to work on it not getting any younger. We lived on Light Street in S. Baltimore and grandfather and grandmother live on S. Charles St. on the 3rd floor in one room Uncle Ralph and Aunt Helen had the rest of the house. Me and my sister Mary went down to there house cause Mary had a big wort on her elbo and mom said grandfather could fix it . Well he open this big trunk and got out a leather pouch and poured some rocks or stones out and got the white one out he rubbed it on her wort and said a few words we didn't understand and he picked this big old wort right off her elbow and not a drop of blood and it didn't hurt.
