He was my husbands great grandfather

Howard's middle name "Mahlon" is Sarah Ann's fathers first name. (Mahlon Hagerman)
They all lived in the Anthony twp, Montour County, area

Margaret died in 1918, and Howard remarried, Blanche Cramer.

Mahlon Hagerman is listed as a boarder, but would have been his maternal grandfather
Sarah Smith is also listed as a boarder, but she would have been his mother I believe - Mahlon's daughter, Sarah Ann (Hagerman) Smith
The Peaslings are also listed as boarders, but given the name Mahalan (Mahlon) for the youngest, I wonder if there is a relationship there as well.

Tracking The 1957 Inheritance from Ohio

Where Did The Money Come From?

Somewhere around 1957, Patsy Ann (Smith) Truckenmiller remembers her grandfather Howard Smith (who was living with them at the time, in the house in McEwensville) received money from "sisters in Ohio".

Howard was the son of Charles Smith and Sarah Ann Hagerman.  Charles & Sarah had 7 Children:

Mary Alice Smith 1863 – 1942

Married Arden McHenry 1871-1951, they lived in Montour County Pa

Clarence S. Smith 1864 – 1865  Died at 9 months old 17 days, according to Turbotville Cemetery Records

Cora May Smith 1865 – 1875  Died at 9 years, 1 month, 17 days old, according to Turbotville Cemetery Records

 Ella M. Smith 1867 – 1920

Married Franklin Peeling, lived in Montour & Northumberland Counties of PA

 Anna Smith 1868 –

I know Anna is still living at home in 1880, but I do not know anything about her after that.

Wilson Cory Smith 1872 – 1872 Died at 5 months, 12 days old, according to Turbotville Cemetery Records

 Howard Mahlon Smith 1876 – 1969

It is possible Anna went to Ohio?  I have been unable to track her at all after the 1880 census.

Thinking it is possible that the "sisters" were actually Howards Aunts, I started with Charles Smith's sisters.  Charles was the son of John & Hannah (Stofflet) Smith.  I have 9 sons recorded for John & Hannah, but not a single daughter.

Charles Wife, Sarah Ann Hagerman, was the daughter of Mahlon & Catherine (Weidman) Hagerman.  Mahlon  & Catherine had (at least) 5 children, 3 of them girls.

John Hagerman

Joshua Hagerman

Sarah Ann Hagerman 1842 –

married Charles Smith, they are the parents of Howard Smith

Susan Ellen Hagerman 1851 – 1935

married WIlliam Wyer in 1879. William is from Ohio, from 1880 to death they are both back in Ohio

Harriet Catherine Hagerman 1853 – 1934

Also went to Ohio!  She married Clayton Ford in 1886, in Ohio.  My guess would be that she was either visiting, or living with her sister when she met Clayton?

So my best guess is that the "sisters" are Howards Aunts, Susan & Harriet.  This leaves more questions though:

What brought William Wyer to Turbotville to marry Susan?
Both sisters died within a year of each other, in 1934/35 - why would it take 20 years for Howard to receive an inheritance from them?
