Timeline

1851 - Alexander is born
11 May

1858 - Sarah is Born
May 6 1858 (date given in her obituary)
Her son Ralph's death certificate names her as Sarah Elizabeth Lytle
Her name is given as Eleanor in her son Roberts obituary, but I'm fairly certain that is a mistake.

Elizabeth Lytle 1830-1914 married Elias Mook.  Elias & Elizabeth's son John Mook married Mary Alice Oberdorf (daughter of Alexander & Sarah (Lytle) Aikey) after her first husband committed suicide.  Elizabeth was the daughter of unknown & Catherine (Marshall) Leidle)  The way these families intermarried, there's likely to be some connection, but I haven't had much luck tracing the Lytle's at all.

I don't know where Sarah is in 1860.  She'd be 2 years old. I found this, for a Sarah Little, there are obviously pages missing (look at the household numbers) in the census, and her parents are most likely on the page that is missing.  There is nothing indicating this is our Sarah anyway, it's just one of the few I found that are the right age in 1860 that I had not already ruled out.

Around 1930?
Sarah (Lytle) Aikey on the far right, but I do not know who the others are.

1930 - Residence

Not with son Frank in 1930
Not with son Paul in 1930
Not with Daughter Mary

Sarah is easy to find in the census when married to Alexanader, but before her marriage, and after his death, I cannot  find her.  I think it is possible she stayed with her children and moved from house to house, as was common at the time, in this time frame - but I don't know, and it's possible I am just missing her in the census, or that she somehow avoided being counted in 1930 & 1940.

1940 - Residence
Not found with her son Frank, with whom she lived at the time of her death in 1949
Not with son Ralph, he died in 1933
Not with son Paul, he died in 1939 (not with daughter in law Mary either)
Not with son Robert George in 1940.
Not with Daughter Mary
1949 - Sarah Died
Residence - Mazeppa Pa, with her son Frank.

NAME: Mrs Sarah E Aikey
GENDER: Female
RACE: White
AGE: 90
BIRTH DATE: 5 Dec 1858
BIRTH PLACE: Pennsylvania
DEATH DATE: 24 Sep 1949
DEATH PLACE: Buffalo, Union, Pennsylvania, USA
FATHER NAME: Alexander Aikey
FATHER BIRTH PLACE: Pennsylvania

CERTIFICATE NUMBER: 80960

Her son Frank  filled in the death certificate, and he used HIS father's name, not hers, in the father line - so her husband Alexander Aikey is listed as her father, and maiden name is listed as "unknown".

Newspaper clippings from September 24th and 25th 1949
Mrs Sarah E. Aikey
Mrs Sarah Elizabet Aikey, 91, died last night at 11:30 pm at the home of her son Frank Aikey, Mazeppa.
Mrs Aikey resided in Mazeppa for the past 28 years.  She has been in poor health for the past 18 months but was not on bedfast.  She was born May 6 1858.
Funeral Arrangments will be announced later.

Funerals
Mrs Sarah E. Aikey
Services for Mrs Sarah Elizabeth Aikey, 91, widow of Alexander Aikey, whose death occured at the home oof her son, Frank Aikey, Mazeppa, will be held tomorrow at 10am at the Dale E. Rank funeral parlors.  The Rev. Glenn Aderhold will officiate.  Internment will be at the White Deer Church Cemetery.  Friends may call tonight from 7 to 9 o'clock at the parlors.
Surviving are two sons, Robert, Mifflinburg Rd; Frank at whose home she died; three daughters, Mrs Florence Greaves, Fort Washington PA; Mrs Margaret Hoffman, New Jersey, and Mrs Lynaugh Partise, Canandaigua NY

Sarah's death certificate offers no help.  It was filled out by her son Frank, who filled in HIS father's name instead of Sarah's - so the "father" on Sarah's death certificate is actually her husband.  Beside mothers maiden name, it says unknown.

Research:

Sarah is not the daughter of Piersol Lytle - I've ruled that out.
She also is not the daughter of Samuel & Catherine Lytle - their daughter Sarah was 8 in 1850 - nearly 20 years older than our Sarah.  I know women lie about their age, but Sarah was 90 when she died, an extra 20 years would put her well over 100 and so I find that unlikely.

Alexander U. Aikey-3(Lewis-2, Lewis-1) was born on 05 Nov 1852 in Pennsylvania. He died on 02 Oct 1921 in West Milton, Union, Pennsylvania, United States. He married (1) Sarah Lytle. She was born in Sep 1859 in Pennsylvania. He married (2) Eleanor Lytle.
