"Most Rothrocks in the USA (including all spellings of the name) are descendants of a family that emigrated from Leiselheim, Germany, in 1733 and 1736.  The father, Johannes, and two sons, Johannes and Johann Georg, settled in Bucks Co., PA; son Philip Jacob and daughter Margaretha (m. John Schultz) settled in York, PA; and sons Ludwig and Andrew settled in Frederick Co., MD, where Ludwig registered as a Dunker.  Generally the diverse spellings of the name (Rotruck, Roderick, etc.) are found in the descendants of Ludwig and Andrew with Rothrock being retained by the descendants of the other lines.  Many descendants moved on to West Virginia, North Carolina (where they became Moravians), Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, Nebraska, and other states, generally in Brethren communities.  Many Rothrocks intermarried with other Brethren families...
